Greetings once again, tiger ring loving small mammals! Smudge here, mascot and spokesdragon of Steel Dragon Jewelry with another edition of The Smudge Report!
Today’s subject, as you have probably already figured out, (you are incredibly smart for a tiny mammal, you know that?) concerns the largest of the cat species, the awesome and awe-inspiring tiger!
Truth be told, up until recently I thought they were mythical, like axolotls and Naked Mole Rats, so I had no idea what their eyes actually looked like.
I checked with a cousin of mine named Shao Shang in China and he told me that there is a really famous tiger called “Bad Ed” that lives in Thailand. So I decided to grab my Sony Sony PXW-X320 XDCAM (free plug for Sony!), fly over, and see how long it took to get some good footage.
My Tiger Ring Experience
Here are my log entries for the trip:
Day One: Thailand is beautiful! Found a great cave and set up camp. Spent most of the day cruising around looking for a location to set up the camera. Found what appears to be a trail through the jungle but not sure if it is a tiger trail or not. Set up a blind. A rather large blind.
Day Two: A group of small mammals went by my film location but didn’t see me. They looked a bit frazzled. The leader was called Dutch, followed by some dudes named Mac, Dillon, Blaine, Billy and a young female they called Anna. Not sure what they were running from, but it wasn’t Bad Ed.
Day Three: Nothing. Spent the morning torching mosquitos. Spent the afternoon whipping up some Thai Cuisine from recipes suggested by my cousin Shao Shang. Awesome!
Day Four: Spent the day in the cave making more Thai food. It’s really good.
Day Five: A rather shoddy-looking group of small mammals went by the blind. When I say small mammals, I mean smaller than normal, except for the old guy in front, who was wearing a white bathrobe and a goofy looking white hat, the normal-looking guy right behind him, and the guy at the end, who looked like Mr. Spock’s little brother and carried a bow. They were speaking some gibberish that I didn’t understand. No Bad Ed.
Day Six: It rained almost all day. No problem, I made extra Thai food.
Day Seven: Weather cleared up. Some teenaged small mammal named Harry wandered past with what appeared to be his girlfriend and another dude named Won. I lost track of them right after I heard a popping noise, so I hope they are OK. No Bad Ed.
Day Eight: More rain, more Thai food, no Bad Ed.
Day Nine: Success! Early in the morning I heard some gnarly growling coming from just south of my film location. About ten minutes later, guess who walked right up to me? Bad Ed! Turns out he’s not bad at all! He’s got a great nose for Thai food and once he ascertained that I wasn’t there to murder him, we got along famously. He’s a pretty nice guy! He was totally fine on letting me take some close ups of his eyes. Mission accomplished!
